Salt Lake City 2017 Election Results: Voting Ends

Salt Lake City residents in Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 voted for city council.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Election Day is over in Utah and while much focus was on who would fill former Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz's seat, Salt Lake City residents casted their ballots for their next city council members. Salt Lake City residents in Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 voted for city council.

In the state's most watched race, Republican John Curtis had a substantial lead Tuesday night over Democrat Kathie Allen in the election for Utah’s 3rd congressional district.

In Salt Lake City's Council District 1, James Rogers ran unopposed.

Chris Wharton had a substantial lead Tuesday night in the battle for District 3, with Wharton up by 11 points. Just 39 percent of the ballots were counted.

In District 5, Erin Mendenhall had an enormous lead over George Chapman with 83 percent of the vote. Just 28 percent of the vote was counted.

And in District 7, Amy Fowler was soundly beating Abe Smith with 63 percent of the vote. Just a third of the ballots had been counted though
