Pilot Found Deceased In Vermont Plane Crash Wreckage: Police

The pilot took off from an airport in Massachusetts Wednesday and did not land in Vermont as expected, authorities said.

PITTSFORD, VT — A pilot was killed in a plane crash after a crash scene was discovered in Vermont Thursday, Vermont State Police said.

The plane, a Cessna 172 , took off from Pittsfield Municipal Airport in Massachusetts, the FAA said. The FAA issued an alert notice after the plane did not arrive when expected at Burlington International Airport in Vermont.

According to the FAA, a concerned friend said the plane departed from Pittsfield Municipal Airport around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The pilot was the only person on board.

Vermont State Police said a crash scene was located on the east side of Route 7 in Pittsford and the plane sustained heavy damage. The pilot has not been identified.
