Ricin Found At Shelburne Senior Living Facility: FBI Probing

Officials say that one resident was being treated at a hospital but that no one is ill with ricin poisoning.

SHELBURNE, VT — Ricin, a deadly toxin, was found inside an apartment of a senior living facility in Shelburne earlier this week and both federal and local authorities are still looking for clues. The acting town police chief said he and FBI agents returned to Wake Robin on Thursday.

First responders were called to the senior living facility on Tuesday for possible ricin exposure. The substance field-tested positive for the poison and testing at the state Department of Health laboratory early Wednesday also was positive for ricin.

The department has confirmed that one resident was being treated at a hospital but says no one is ill with ricin poisoning.
