Target Hiring 6,000 Seasonal Workers In Virginia, DC

Target officials said the company plans to fill a variety of roles with 6,000 Virginia and DC workers ahead of the holiday season.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Target plans to hire about 120,000 seasonal workers across the country for the upcoming holiday season, the company announced Thursday in a news release. About 6,000 of those jobs will be at stores in Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The seasonal workers will fill a variety of roles across Target's stores and distribution and fulfillment centers, according to the news release. Target also said it plans to nearly double the number of hires to fulfill digital orders compared to last year.

Hiring events will be held Oct. 12-14 at stores across the country. Target says the events will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the potential for eligible applicants to interview on the spot and receive a conditional job offer.

Target provided Patch the following breakdown of hiring needs by state and metro region:

  • Minnesota – 10,000
    • Twin Cities – 7,000
  • California – 28,000
    • Los Angeles – 13,000
  • Texas – 11,000
  • Florida – 12,000
    • Miami – 2,500
  • Virginia – 6,000
    • D.C. area – 4,500
  • Massachusetts – 4,300
    • Boston area – 3,000
  • Colorado – 4,500
    • Denver – 4,000
  • Illinois – 9,000
    • Chicago – 8,000

"In addition, the company will continue to offer extra hours to current team members to accommodate their interest and availability," Target said in the news release. "The announcement is a continuation of the company's investment in team members that includes increased hourly wages, benefits and discounts, and meaningful opportunities to build experience and skills. Seasonal team members are an integral part of Target's efforts to ensure its 1,839 stores provide guests with a fun and easy holiday shopping experience."

Workers will begin at $12/hour minimum wage. Workers will also get the following benefits:

  • A 10 percent discount at Target stores and Target.com
  • An additional 20 percent merchandise wellness discount on fruits and vegetables and all Simply Balanced and C9 Champion merchandise
  • The opportunity to earn holiday pay on Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • Flexible schedules that allow team members to work a variety of hours

Target also said it is investing more than $2 million to reward team members that work during the holiday season. One team member at each of Target's stores and distribution centers will be randomly selected to win a $500 gift card and an opportunity to donate $500 to a local community organization of their choice.
