VA Coronavirus: Fairfax County Has Most Deaths
Fairfax County is reported to have the most deaths in Virginia with a total of 90 deaths as of Saturday morning.
VIRGINIA — The number of deaths in Virginia from the new coronavirus reached 436 as of Saturday morning. State health officials reported 38 new deaths from the day before. Fairfax County is reported to have the most deaths in the state with 90 deaths, with Henrico County reporting 89 deaths from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.
Virginia's number of positive new coronavirus cases increased by 772 from Friday to Saturday, according to the Virginia Department of Health's latest data. The total number of cases stands at 12,366, including 11,902 laboratory-confirmed cases and 464 probable cases among patients with symptoms and a known exposure to COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Earlier this week, the Virginia Department of Health released data on cases of the new coronavirus by county and independent city. That includes data on deaths, hospitalizations, cases per 100,000 people and breakdowns by ages and race. However, racial data remains missing for 32.3 percent of cases.

Fairfax County leads the state with 2,745 cases, followed by Prince William County with 1,184, Henrico County and Arlington County both with 764, Alexandria with 575 and Loudoun County with 564.

- Alexandria: 575 cases, 80 hospitalizations, 18 deaths
- Arlington County: 764 cases, 139 hospitalizations, 29 deaths
- Fairfax County: 2,745 cases, 481 hospitalizations, 90 deaths
- Fairfax City: 26 cases, four hospitalizations, two deaths
- Falls Church: 26 cases, three hospitalizations, two deaths
- Loudoun County: 564 cases, 72 hospitalizations, 11 deaths
- Manassas: 154 cases, 24 hospitalizations, one death
- Manassas Park: 44 cases, six hospitalizations, one death
- Prince William County: 1,184 cases, 120 hospitalizations, 19 deaths
- Fredericksburg: 23 cases, three hospitalizations, no deaths
- Spotsylvania County: 101 cases, 21 hospitalizations, three deaths
- Stafford County: 198 cases, 39 hospitalizations, two deaths
The Virginia Department of Health reports 1,942 hospitalizations, but the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association has more detailed information on current hospital resource use and discharged patients. As of Saturday, 1,935 people with confirmed or pending COVID-19 test results are hospitalized, a slight increase from Friday. The association says 1,717 confirmed COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals.
Of the hospitalized people with pending or confirmed results, 223 are on a ventilator and 357 are in the intensive care unit (ICU). There are 629 ventilators in use of the available 2,935 ventilators at Virginia hospitals. That represents 21 percent use of ventilators available in Virginia.
Virginia reported its first confirmed coronavirus case on March 7. As of Saturday, 72,178 people in the state have been tested for the virus, an increase of 3,163 from Friday's report.
