Virginia Coronavirus: 890 Cases, 22 Deaths Reported

The number of cases increased by 151 in Virginia from Saturday to Sunday, with an additional five deaths, state health officials report.

VIRGINIA — Five additional deaths have been attributed to the new coronavirus in Virginia, health officials reported Sunday, bringing the total coronavirus-related deaths to 22 in the state.

So far, 890 people have tested positive for the virus, according to the Virginia Department of Health, up from 739 cases the previous day.

Here are Virginia's latest coronavirus numbers as of Sunday, March 29, according to the Virginia Department of Health:

  • 10,609 people tested
  • 890 total cases
  • 112 hospitalizations
  • 22 total deaths

That means about 8.3 percent of people who were tested in Virginia had positive results, more than 12 percent of those who tested positive were hospitalized and nearly 2.5 percent of those who have the virus have died in Virginia.

Among the 890 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Virginia, Fairfax County has the most, with 187 people who have tested positive for the virus. Next is Arlington County with 84 cases, Prince William County with 72, James City with 70 and Loudoun County with 61.

The bulk of the coronavirus cases in Virginia — 81.6 percent — involve people age 20 to 69 years old.
