Virginia Coronavirus Update: 1,115 New Cases, 3 New Deaths

Northern Virginia saw 259 new cases of the coronavirus, four more than the previous day.

VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,115 new coronavirus cases on Friday. The increase comes after three straight days of new cases below 1,000 earlier this week. Friday's total of 131,640 marks an increase from the previous day's total of 130,525 cases. Three new deaths were reported Friday. A total of 2,711 people have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and 10,155 people have been hospitalized.

Northern Virginia saw 259 new cases of the coronavirus, four more than the previous day. Elsewhere in the state, the southwest region reported 278 new cases, the eastern region reported 151 new cases, the central region reported 223 new cases and the northwest region reported 204 new cases.

There have been 1,728,110 PCR tests total tests completed so far in Virginia. The 7-day average of positive PCR tests is 7.5 percent as of Sept. 11.

According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, there are 120 COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 249 in the intensive care units. Ventilator use among all Virginia hospital patients is at 20 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 73 percent. Two hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.
