Allstate volunteers earn $14,000 grant for Arlington's Doorways
The Allstate Foundation grant to support nonprofit's work to help families who face homelessness and domestic violence achieve independence

ANNANDALE, Va., Feb. 22, 2018 – Fourteen Allstate agency owners and financial specialists from across Northern Virginia, Maryland and the Metro D.C. area recently came together to secure a $14,000 Allstate Foundation Helping Hands® grant to benefit Doorways for Women and Families. The grant will support the nonprofit organization's mission to create pathways out of homelessness, domestic violence and sexual assault leading to safe, stable and empowered lives.
The agency owners each earned $1,000 for Doorways for Women and Families by holding a fundraiser and awareness event at Bloomingdale's Tysons Corner Center. The fundraiser included raffling off a purse designed by actress Kerry Washington for the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge, makeup parties, movie tickets and other items. Doorways for Women and Families will use the $14,000 grant to further its work in the community.
The participating Allstate volunteers are among thousands of agency owners and financial specialists around the country working to strengthen communities by volunteering their time to support the causes they care about most.
"As small business owners and community leaders, Allstate agency owners and financial specialists see firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing the communities they serve," said Sereda Fowlkes, Allstate exclusive agent in Vienna, Va. "I've worked with Doorways for Women and Families before and met the women who've benefited from the shelter. I am proud to volunteer and raise funds with my colleagues to improve the lives of people in need of their services."
Doorways for Women and Families is one of thousands of organizations this year to receive Allstate Foundation Helping Hands grants secured by agency owners and financial specialists on behalf of the nonprofits where they volunteer. The grants support organizations addressing domestic violence, youth empowerment, disaster preparedness, hunger and other causes.
