//Disclaimer the words below are not my own but came to me in the form of a letter from an anonymous writer and this text is what inspired this GoFundMe account to begin with//
“Mel Bodrog is an amazing woman; possibly her last name rings a faint bell in your memory? As her late husband, Marty, was killed in an tragic mass casualty incident which happened here, right in our Nation’s Capital. This letter is not of her husband’s death though; I am writing for the purpose of telling a tiny part of Mel’s story. She is the one in the Bodrog family who I feel has been overlooked by the press, social media, and seemingly forgotten by the United States of America. Even though her husband died a hero and may end up in textbooks one day; I believe Mel’s story needs to be shared just as much as his. For it is Mel who supported Marty and raised three daughters almost completely on her own while he was deployed on and off in the Navy. Even though her beloved husband was literally killed via homicide while doing the very job that was providing for her & her family... Mel continues to keep her trust steadfast and firm in The LORD God Almighty. One word that immediately comes to mind when I think of Mel is ‘selfless’. Did you know that on her own wedding day on December the 26th 1989, Mel literally borrowed her wedding dress from a close friend?! When I inquired to her about what compelled her to do this Mel kept her response simple; “I just didn’t want to spend the money.” But deep down, if one could peer into her beautiful soul, one would know she just did not see the importance of purchasing her own wedding dress because she was getting to marry the man whom she knew God had chosen for her, her best friend Marty Bodrog. And that you see is only one, tiny glimpse into the selfless life which Mel lives out each day.”

When I received this letter I started doing some slight investigating of who is this Mel Bodrog and what is she about? I was shocked to find that Mel currently drives an almost FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Toyota Prius. And quite frankly absolutely loves driving her Toyota Prius so much that this past October she drove from her home in Annandale, Virginia up to Boston and then all around the different states of New England just to see her family and friends along the way, about a two-week trip overall. When her daughter inquired as to why she did not just fly she said she hates inconveniencing people and having her car gives her the freedom to not have to do so. Hearing that Mel’s car is almost as old as her youngest daughter (okay well that’s an exaggeration but honestly not by too much) I took it upon myself to see what I could do to bless Mel this Christmas. Mel’s daughter was contacted and has agreed to trade in her current car to cover some of the cost of getting Mel a brand-new 2018 Nissan Leaf. Mel’s daughter informed me that in a passing conversation Mel expressed interest and complete joy over the thought of having a completely electric car, but she knew financially it wasn’t doable. Here’s my proposition. Mel’s daughter has agreed with me to be the buyer of the Nissan Leaf that is at Passport Nissan in Marlow Heights, MD. She will then sign the title over to her mother and completely surprise her with the new title in Mel’s name when they go to pick up ‘the daughter’s car’. Ricky, my point of contact at Passport Nissan in Marlow Heights, MD is in on this surprise and he is working to get the financing as low as possible for the daughter to complete the purchase. Here’s where I come in.The Bodrog Family has always been incredibly smart with their money by following Dave Ramsey and while I know the daughter has her mom’s absolute best interest in mind; taking out a loan on a car that will be a gift is extremely risky and I know she feels very unnerved by the pressure of completing those payments. As her mother’s amazing Christmas gift could potentially be taken from her if the payments are not met. Well I couldn’t let that happen so that is where YOU come into play... By just sharing this post #ChillingWithMelB you are making this Christmas Miracle begin to come to life. How about we all go in the Christmas Spirit and be a blessing to this beautiful selfless woman who is about to spend her twenty-ninth wedding anniversary without her other half. THANK YOU & MERRY CHRISTMAS #ChillingWithMelB //Full disclaimer: The amount on this GoFundMe account is the exact amount needed for the 2018 Nissan Leaf this is the remaining cost after the $7,000 trade in from the daughter’s car, a $1,000 donation by the Passport Nissan in Marlow Heights via a student discount for exceptional grades and the expectation of the daughter’s upcoming higher education graduation and then the $5,000 down by Mel’s daughter. (Please note ‘daughter’ is being used in generic and vague terms here intentionally as all three daughters are playing a role but do not want themselves to be the focus of this post) all that is left is $16,090.00 and since GoFundMe takes 2.9% + 0.30 cents per donation (I’m not going to do the math on the 0.30 cents) but I did multiply the remaining cost by the 2.9% to get the total amount for this GoFundMe Account of $16,556.00//PS: If we as a team can pull this off; I promise to post a follow up video of Mel's reaction when she realizes the car is hers!!Link to Nissan Leaf at Passport Nissan in Marlow Heights, MD
