Human Remains Found Near Springfield Industrial Park: Police
Police were in the area Saturday afternoon searching for a missing juvenile when they discovered the remains of a female, police said.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police announced that human remains were discovered Saturday while helping another jurisdiction search for a missing juvenile in the Springfield area. Major Crimes detectives are working to determine the identity of the remains discovered Saturday.
FCPD detectives began their search in Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Lake Accotink Park Road, in Springfield. They expanded their search to the surrounding area and discovered the remains of a female Saturday afternoon in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road, in Springfield (see map below). Detectives were unable to confirm the female’s identity. Wimsatt Road is located off of Backlick Road.
An autopsy will be conducted on Monday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said.

No further information was available, but detectives do not believe there is any threat to public safety, police said. More information will be released as it becomes available, according to police.
