Mathnasium to Open in Annandale Shopping Center this Fall
A much needed service to the youth of our community.

Annandale will soon gain a new business that offers a much needed service to the youth of our community. Mathnasium of Annandale, a math only learning center, will open later this fall in the storefront next to the new ALDI grocery store at the Annandale Shopping Center. At this bright and cheerful center kids in grades K through 12 will be taught to understand math by teaching the way that makes sense to them. Director Sarla Kale believes that, “When math makes sense, kids leap way ahead – whether they started out far behind or already ahead in math. Our formula for teaching kids math, the Mathnasium Method™has transformed the way kids learn math for over a decade.” Mathnasium builds math knowledge upon what students already know - this helps kids learn quickly and boosts their confidence right away.
At Mathnasium only math is tutored with an emphasis on critical and quantitative thinking. Both visual and hands-on tools are utilized so that concepts are really understood not memorized. Their goal is to enhance your child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance. At the same time, as they build confidence, families see measurable progress. Along with working through customized learning plans, Mathnasium students receive homework help to solidify their understanding of concepts that are being covered in their current classwork.
Kale is an experienced teacher and current Director at an AMI Montessori School after completing five years at an AMS Montessori campus. She has noticed that math concepts seem more and more challenging for more students, and after careful study of the four math instructional programs currently available, she concluded that Mathnasium techniques made the most sense to her.

Meeting with Kale, both a teacher and a mom, is an inspiring experience. Articulate, enthusiastic, soft spoken, and savvy, she speaks passionately about viewing math as a life skill that is incorporated into every activity of our lives. Kale has regrettably watched student sshy away from careers that incorporate math since they have suffered various levels of past failure foreshadowing, at least to these students, future failure. Instead, she wants the students to feel challenged but successful. The teachers at Mathnasium are highly experienced professionals who constantly expand their teaching methods to allow for various tutoring approaches to match the needs of various types of learners.
Mathnasium applies team teaching, consistency and flexibility in one hour sessions for students K-8 and 90 minute classes for grades 9-12. They recommend two sessions per week for six months with periodic check-ups as needed over the years. Private sessions can be arranged, specialty SAT prep classes, and a summer camp will be offered. The best news is that Mathnasium does NOT assign homework.
