Significance, Principle and Benefits of Ramadan

The month of Ramadan is considered as the most important month in the Islamic calendar and it is one of the pillars of Islam. The month of Ramadan is extremely significant because in this holy month, God Almighty comes closer to his worshippers and gives them an opportunity to forgive their sins by listening to the prayers of His true believers. The month of Ramadan holds its significance because during this month, the Holy Quran was revealed to mankind as guidance and as proof of Islam. Fasting during Ramadan is obligatory upon every adult Muslim and it is a period of physical, moral and spiritual discipline where the worshippers have an opportunity to gain extra closeness to God Almighty and gain security against evil by staying on the righteous path and being obedient. The true purpose of Ramadan is to bring people closer to God Almighty and everything that he or she does in this spiritual month is for the sake of God by intensifying their moral and spiritual values and concentrating on them strictly.

In order to strengthen the blessings of Ramadan, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community emphasizes on unity among all the Ahmadi Muslims to pray as a community in congregation and celebrate this holy month with equality, peace and unity. As Ahmadi Muslims, we celebrate the Holy month of Ramadan by praying five times a day, reading the Holy Quran, giving charity and doing deeds for the happiness of the God Almighty. This month has several benefits for an individual for example it trains the mind and body to cope with anger, hunger and thirst. It morally encourages a person to pray and perform good deeds which helps protect them from evil doings. The month of Ramadan helps spiritually uplift a person by helping them detach from worldly pursuits and getting closer to their faith. Ramadan teaches one how to be patient, humble, kind, graceful, fair and peaceful.

Fasting in Ramadan also has several health benefits which helps detox the body and also helps people find cure from addiction of drugs and alcohol. As an Ahmadi Muslim, I personally find the month of Ramadan extremely helpful because it spiritually uplifts me and helps me find a purpose in my life by reconnecting to God Almighty. The month of Ramadan allows me to understand my true identity as an Ahmadi Muslim and helps me realize all the blessings around me which makes me thankful and peaceful. During Ramadan, I get to unite strongly on a spiritual level with my family and Muslim friends by worshipping God because we all have one purpose, which is to serve our Him and do every deed for the sake of his happiness. As a spiritual exercise, I personally detach myself emotionally from all the worldly problems such as hurdles in my life because praying in this blessed month makes all my worries go away and gives me peace and strength as well. Ramadan is a great month for a person to restore their faith in Islam and this month is a great opportunity for a person to grow stronger spiritually in their faith.
