Woodson High Students Lead Fundraising Effort To Cure Cancer

FAIRFAX, VA — Two sisters attending Woodson High School and fellow students are raising money to find a cure for cancer as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2020 Student of the Year campaign.

Team Cure It, run by Naomi and Sophia White along with four other students, is participating in the seven-week fundraising campaign through March 7. The students are motivated to raise over $150,000 because they know family or friends who've battled cancer.

The Student of the Year campaign features high school students from around the country fundraising to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission. The charitable organization seeks to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, as well as boost the quality of life for patients and their families. The team that raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks is named "Students of the Year."

The Woodson students' fundraising efforts include moving around the Woodson gnome to different locations and selling T-shirts and hoodies with a "Cure It" logo.

Anyone can donate to the students' campaign online until 6 p.m. on March 7.
