2 Men Charged In Green Valley Malicious Wounding Case: Police

Arlington County Police arrested two men they said were involved in a malicious wounding incident early Friday morning in Green Valley.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police arrested two men in connection with a malicious wounding that occurred early Friday morning in the Green Valley neighborhood, according to a police release.

Police charged Cordell Campbell, 24, of Arlington, with malicious wounding, abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of firearm by person subject to protective order. They also charged Christopher Morales, 26, of Alexandria, with abduction, brandishing, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Officers responded around 3:06 a.m., on Friday, for the report of an assault with an injury in the 800 block of S. Florida Street. A preliminary investigation revealed that a group of five people who were known to each other, including Campbell and Morales, were outside a residence in the 2400 block of S. Oxford Street.

During a dispute over money, Campbell and Morales pulled out firearms. Campbell then hit one of the victims in the head, causing a laceration. After the victims fled the scene, they called the police to request help. Medics treated the victim's injury.

Through their police work, the officers were able to identify Campbell as one of the suspects. They were able to track down the vehicle Campbell and Morales were traveling in and effected a traffic stop eastbound on Route 50 and North Courthouse Road.

Although Morales was taken into custody without incident, police say other officers were required to help arrest Campbell. Police recovered three loaded firearms from inside the vehicle, a black handgun with extended magazine, an AR-15 style rifle, and a shotgun.

Morales and Campbell were transported to the Arlington County Detention Facility, where they are being held without bond. This case remains under investigation.
