ACPD Hosts Fill-The-Cruiser Food Drive For Families In Need

ARLINGTON, VA — Got some extra food and want to help local families facing food insecurity due to the coronavirus pandemic? The Community Resources Section of the Arlington County Police Department is hosting a fill-the-cruiser food drive in support of the Arlington Food Assistance Center.

Food donations will be accepted Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 6-8 p.m., at these three drive-thru locations:

  • Westover Baptist Church, 1125 Patrick Henry Drive
  • Police Headquarters, 1425 N. Courthouse Road
  • Giant Food, 2901 S. Glebe Road

Donors will able to stay in their vehicles. All they have to do is drive up to the unloading area, where they will be greeted by officers who will take their donations. A separate area will be set up to accept donations dropped off by bike or food. Donors are asked to observe all proper social distancing guidelines and wear a face covering when they are dropping off their donations.

AFAC provides nutritious, supplemental groceries free of charge to 2,400 Arlington households. It accepts most unopened, unexpired, and unprepared foods. It also accepts perishable items. AFAC especially in need of the following low sodium, low fat and low sugar items:

  • Low sodium tomato products (diced, paste, and sauce)
  • Low sodium canned tuna
  • Low sodium canned beans
  • Low sodium canned soup
  • Canned vegetables
  • Peanut butter (in plastic jars)
  • Low sugar cereal

Anyone who can't make it to Tuesday's food drive but still wants to donate food can visit AFAC’s website to find a donation drop-off site near them.
