Arlington Dominates Most Expensive Zip Codes In Virginia: Report
A new report shows just how expensive Arlington is compared to the rest of the state.
ARLINGTON, VA — Would you believe that Arlington is insanely expensive compared to the rest of Virginia? Of course you would.
But did you know that six of the top 10 most expensive zip codes in the state are in Arlington? Well, that's pretty crazy even by our standards.
A new report from RENTCafé reported that 22209 in Rosslyn was Virginia's most expensive zip code with an average rent of $2,718 per month. Arlington also grabbed No. 3 (22201), No. 4 (22202), No. 5 (22203), No. 7 (22207), and No. 10 (22206).

All of the remaining spots were taken by other Northern Virginia towns, not surprisingly: McLean (No. 2), Reston (No. 6), Alexandria (No. 8), and Falls Church (No. 9).
Area codes from the D.C. region swept the top 10 in the Mid-Atlantic category, but just one of them was an Arlington zip code -- 22209 -- which landed at No. 4, behind three D.C. zip codes.

As expensive as the D.C. area is, none of our zip codes made it into the top 50 nationwide, with New York, California, and Massachusetts representing all 50 spots -- Manhattan in particular dominating, as you would expect.
"This study uses the actual rent charged in apartment buildings with 50 or more rental units, located in over 130 U.S. markets, totaling approximately 15 million apartment units," the RENTCafe states on their website about their methodology. "ZIP Codes with less than 200 rental units and less than 3 rental properties were not included in the study. Average rent price data was provided by Yardi Matrix, an apartment market intelligence source and RENTCafe’s sister company that researches and reports on large-scale multifamily properties of 50+ units across 130+ markets in the United States."
The average rent prices in this report are from data collected in July 2019.
