Arlington Thrive offers Resolve to Run program in 2015 to strengthen physical fitness and charitable spirit
Arlington Thrive is offering Resolve to Run, a 3-month Running Training Program beginning in late January which will train participants to run a 5K, 10 mile or Half-marathon race. Both experienced runners and beginners are welcome to train and achieve their running goals. Participants can choose to run in the April 26 George Washington Parkway Classic 10 Mile or 5K race or a separate half-Marathon. Those individuals who want to walk the 5K race are also encouraged to sign-up. Participants will be supporting a local nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial assistance to Arlington residents. They will be encouraged to raise funds for Arlington Thrive (www.arlingtonthrive.org) during the training and race. More information about fundraising will be provided during the training program.
Training for the 10 Mile distance and Half Marathon begins on January 31, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. while training for the 5K race begins on February 7, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. Both training groups will continue each Saturday through April 18. The training location will be announced soon. The cost for the training program is $85.00 and includes the training program, supplies and a donation to Arlington Thrive. A special discount will be offered for two or more family members, college students and runners age 25 and under. Training participants are expected to attend an orientation meeting on either: Saturday, January 24, 10:00 a.m. OR Wednesday, January 28, 7:00 p.m. The location is First Presbyterian Church, Room 103, 601 N. Vermont Street, Arlington, VA.

Prospective participants are also invited to a Resolve to Run Happy Hour on Thursday, January 22, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Pete’s New Haven Style Pizza in Clarendon. Special drink prices will be offered. The event is FREE. Participants will be able to meet runners who have trained in the past and get general information about the program. Since 1975, Arlington Thrive has been a front-line defense against homelessness and provides a safety net for Arlington’s most needy and vulnerable residents. Arlington Thrive is the only organization in Arlington which provides same-day emergency financial assistance.
