Arlington's Torri Huske Wins Trip To Olympics With Another Record

ARLINGTON, VA — With her second American record in as many nights, Arlington native Torri Huske won the 100m butterfly at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska, Monday night, nailing down an invitation to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Huske posted a time of 55.66 seconds, only 0.18 off the world record of 55.48 seconds, held by Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom, the reigning Olympic champion. The Yorktown High School student also beat the American record of 55.78 seconds she had set Sunday night.

Huske competes for the Arlington Aquatic Club and is set to swim collegiately at Stanford University. When she decided which school to attend, Huske told the Washington City Paper that she met with D.C. area native and Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky who swam for Stanford before turning professional.

In Monday’s finals, Huske beat 16-year-old phenom Claire Curzan from Cary, North Carolina who took second place and also earned a spot in the Tokyo Olympics with a time of 56.43 seconds.

Later in the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Huske will be competing in the 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter individual medley, and 50-meter freestyle.
