ATF: Virginia is 5th Most Heavily Armed State in U.S.
Data from the U.S. Census and ATF counts more than 30 registered guns for every 1,000 residents.

CBS News reports that data from the 2013 U.S. Census and the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) ranks two local areas among the most heavily armed in the state.
The state of Virginia comes in at number 5 on the list, with 30.1 firearms per every 1,000 people, which totals to 248,939 registered firearms among 8,260,405 people in the Commonwealth.
Interestingly, though firearms are largely outlawed in the District of Columbia, D.C. ranked number two on the list, with a whopping 66.4 guns for every 1,000 residents, which totals to 64,353 registered firearms among 19,651,127 people.
