Ballston Quarter Pedestrian Bridge Delayed: County

The bridge may not open until as late as 2019, month after the mall reopens.

ARLINGTON, VA -- We are just months away from the grand re-opening of the Ballston Quarter mall, but it may be lacking a pedestrian bridge for a little while when it does, the Arlington County Board said in a new report.

The pedestrian bridge, which will span Wilson Boulevard, is "behind schedule and is now expected to be completed in the winter or early spring of 2019," the report states.

Ballston Quarter is scheduled to open sometime this fall, so shoppers will need to cross the busy street in order to get inside the mall until the pedestrian bridge is ready.

"This deferral will allow additional time for public engagement and for the applicant to provide additional information to support the request," the report states. "No issues have been identified with the remaining elements of the proposed site plan amendment."

The Board anticipates a "soft opening" of the mall in September.
