Canadian Football Player And NonProfit Collect Items For Homeless
Virginia-Raised Canadian Football League Player And Local NonProfit Collect Items For The Needy as Holidays and Winter Approach.
December 02, 2020 — Stemming from a routine encounter with a homeless man on the streets of Montreál, Canadian Football League Wide Receiver Dante Absher decided that spare change isn’t enough, especially as the weather plummets. While currently back home in Virginia because of a cancelled 2020 season, Dante reached out to friends at Hearts of Empowerment to organize a supply drive as a way to give back this season. Alongside him is the support of fellow Virginian football players, including Josh Morgan, a retired NFL wide receiver, and Lucky Whitehead, a former NFL current CFL wide receiver.
“I try to take care of my community and give back as much as I can… When I graduated High School I didn't have a home myself... going through that as a child… thats why it means so much to be able to come back out here in the same streets I grew up in and give back” — Josh Morgan, Retired NFL Wide Receiver
“It's a great feeling to be out here and be able to interact with other people. For myself to be able to put a smile on peoples faces with all that's going on… it's a tough time for people so for us to be out here together… it's a great feeling” — Lucky Whitehead, Wide Receiver on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The group collected over 10,000 donated items over a span of a few weeks. These items, along with a lunch meal, were given to homeless individuals across various Washington DC neighborhoods.
