Flooding Watch In Effect Through Thursday In Arlington

The National Weather Service has issued a flooding watch for Arlington running throughout Thursday.

ARLINGTON, VA — A flood warning has been issued for Arlington County on Thursday as heavy rainfall could prompt flooding. The warning is in effect until 12 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, the doppler radar found heavy rain around 9:25 a.m. that will cause flooding. About an inch of rain has already fallen, and an additional inch is possible.

Locations that will see flooding include Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria; Fairfax County; Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park.

Forecasts indicate Thursday likely isn't the end of rain and thunderstorms. Here is the NWS forecast for Arlington into the weekend:

Thursday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 83. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible. A chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, with some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Northeast wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Friday night there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Saturday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 81. East wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Saturday night, there will be showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
