The NWS says the heat index will hit near 100 degrees Friday, due to temperatures in the low to mid-90s.

Under a Heat Advisory, those without air conditioning or anyone outside for an extended period of time are at risk for heat-related illnesses, the NWS advises. The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible, the NWS notes. You should take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside, the NWS warns.

The NWS advises rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

To avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke, the NWS suggests:

  • Wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Reduce outdoor work
  • Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments
  • Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
