Irish Restaurant Mattie & Eddie’s Coming To Pentagon City

ARLINGTON, VA — A new restaurant, Mattie & Eddie’s Irish Bar and Restaurant, is coming this spring to the Arlington shopping area formerly known as Pentagon Row.

Cathal Armstrong, the chef who started D.C. restaurant Kaliwa, is behind the opening of Mattie & Eddie’s in the Pentagon City shopping and dining area now called Westpost. The new restaurant was inspired by and named for Armstrong’s Irish grandparents.

Mattie & Eddie’s will serve Irish sausage rolls, appetizers such as black pudding with onions, and Eammon’s fish and chips served with seven secret sauces and house-cured corned beef with cabbage confit and parsleyed potato.

“The menu will feature my version of familiar Irish dishes, with modern ingredients,” Armstrong said Wednesday in a statement. “We’re eager to create an Irish comfort food experience, paired with a great beer or glass of wine, in the company of the people you love.”

Federal Realty Investment Trust, owner of Westpost, expects the Pentagon City retail area will get a boost in business from the arrival of Amazon’s new headquarters campus.

“As we look towards the impending arrival of Amazon’s HQ2 along with the continued evolution of National Landing, we are focused on delivering a true destination, an outpost, that exceeds the expectations of the long-time residents and the new-comers that call National Landing, and the greater Arlington area, home, work, and all things in between,” Stuart Biel of Federal Realty Investment Trust said in a statement.

Other restaurant additions to the neighborhood over the past year have included Scott Chung’s Bun’d Up and Antonio Ferraro’s Napoli Salumeria as well as the soon-to-arrive Lucky Danger.

“With a spring opening, Mattie & Eddie’s will be a welcomed addition to the current mix and offers a look into the future of Westpost at National Landing,” Federal Realty Investment Trust said.
