Justice Park Receives 70 New Plants Thanks to Volunteers

Local Nonprofit Joins Forces with Fairfax County Park Authority in Earth Day Appreciation

Falls Church, VA — Nonprofit Hearts of Empowerment partnered with Invasive Management Area’s (IMA) Carol Turner, Site Leader at Justice Park in Falls Church, Virginia in order to provide assistance in restoring Justice Park.

More than 25 volunteers registered with the Arlington based organization, Hearts of Empowerment, and gathered at Justice Park (Falls Church, VA) in order to assist with planting over 70 different plants and trees local to the area, including the removal of several invasive plant species. Located next to the historic Justice Park High School, the park holds a special place in the hearts of local community members.

Invasive Management Area Program (IMA), a volunteer program overseen by the Fairfax County Park Authority, is dedicated to thwarting invasive plant species that degrade our natural ecosystems. Many of these invasive plant species have overtaken the natural forests and parklands Justice Park has to offer. IMA’s Justice Park Site Leader Carol Turner, provided assistance with local plantlife knowledge native to the Falls Church area, as well as leading the process of both excavation and reseeding of the local park grounds.

In recognition of Earth Day, the event aimed to raise awareness to the rapid deterioration of the planet’s natural ecosystems and habitats. A growing topic of concern in the last decade has been focused on human interaction with the planet, and the impact that has had. Hearts of Empowerment used its vast network to gather all 25 volunteers needed, and used their time and energy to not only appreciate what nature has gifted our community, but to preserve what we have left. This project was sponsored by Wegmans Grocery and Toastique Gourmet Toast & Juice Bar.
