Lowest COVID-19 Positivity Rate Posted In Arlington Since October

Virginia Department of Health reported a 3.7 percent positivity testing rate for COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District.

ARLINGTON, VA — Positivity rates for COVID-19 testing the Arlington Health District have been on the decline since January, when the county posted a 13.4 percent positivity rate on Jan. 2.

Virginia Department of Health reported Thursday that Arlington had the lowest positivity rate for COVID-19 testing since early October. VDH reported that a total of 266,819 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 3.7 percent positivity rate. That matches the 3.7 percent recorded on Oct. 9 and is 0.1 percent higher than the 3.6 percent recorded on Oct. 7.

Statewide there have been 9,360,432 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 5.3 percent positivity rate.

As of Thursday morning, 182,818 doses of COVID-19 have been administered in the Arlington Health District and 76,918 people have been fully vaccinated, according to VDH. Statewide, 6,549,140 doses have been administered and 2,840,635 Virginians are fully vaccinated.

Arlington County residents 16 and older can find free appointments via VaccineFinder.org, where they will be able to choose from a variety of appointment times and clinics offering the vaccine.

All residents have to do to schedule an appointment directly at one of Arlington's public health clinics is to visit the county's website or search for an appointment at nearby locations by searching VaccineFinder.org.

Arlington is also offering free walk-in vaccinations with no appointments necessary at the following locations this week:

  • Walter Reed Community Center, 2909 16th St. South, Arlington, VA 22206; 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Age requirements: 16 and over (individuals ages 16-17 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can provide permission to get the COVID-19 vaccine); Vaccine available: Pfizer
  • Crystal City, 2100 Crystal Drive (GPS for parking: 220 20th Street South), Arlington, VA 22202; Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Wednesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Age requirements: 18 and over;Vaccine available: Moderna and Johnson & Johnson

VDH confirmed 15 additional cases of COVID-19 Thursday morning in the Arlington Health District. That's down from the 21 reported on Wednesday. The total number of positive cases reported in the county stands at 15,171.

No new deaths connected with COVID-19 were reported in the Arlington Health District, according VDH. The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 remains at 254. To date, 832 people have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Arlington.

There have been 65 outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Arlington Health District. There have been 28 outbreaks at long-term care facilities, 18 in a congregate setting, one at a correctional facility, four in health care settings, six at a child care facilities, one at a college or a university, and seven at a K-12 facility. The total number of cases associated with an outbreak is 1,089. There have been 369 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington involving health-care workers.

There have been 664,394 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 10,861 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There have been a total of 28,771 hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Globally, more than 155.3 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 3.2 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the U.S., more than 32.2 million people have been infected and over 579,000 people have died from COVID-19.
