CLARENDON, VA — Arlington County Police charged a North Carolina man Sunday afternoon, after he bit a police officer during his arrest in Clarendon, according to the daily crime report.

ACPD officers responded around 2:56 p.m, to the report of disorderly conduct at a business in the 2700 block of Washington Blvd. They determined the suspect knocked over merchandise displays, before he left that business and entered a second business in the 2800 block of Clarendon Blvd. The suspect went behind the counter of that business and tried to steal an employee's cellphone, before he fled on foot. The officers located the suspect nearby, but he refused to follow commands, threw stolen merchandise, and walked away into traffic. The officers found the suspect in the 1200 block of N. Garfield Street and tried to stop him, but he ignored lawful commands and bit one of the officers, according to police. After a brief struggle, the officers were able to take the suspect into custody. The three business declined to file charges but requested the suspect be banned from their locations. The officer who was bitten was not injured.

ACPD arrested David Morris, 36, of Fayetteville, N.C., and charged him with assault & battery on police and obstruction of justice. He is being held without bond.
