Nonprofit Teaches Youth About Environmental Sustainability

Hearts of Empowerment renovates plots and gardens new seeds for assisted housing community.

Washington D.C - Nonprofit, Hearts of Empowerment and its partner, Housing Up, hosted their second community based event to better serve the residents of Webster Garden Apartments in Washington DC.

The organizations hosted a gardening project that allowed them to teach the youth of Webster Garden Apartments about the importance of sustainable gardening. The children from this neighborhood have found great interest in gardening and were looking for new opportunities. Along with 6 volunteers from Hearts of Empowerment, the charity renovated the garden plots and planted new seeds for the summer. This summer the residents will see lettuce, carrots, and herbs grow which will be available to take home.

To celebrate this new project, an ice cream social was held afterwards as it gave the residents the opportunity to interact with staff from Hearts of Empowerment and learn more about the upcoming projects that are targeted to address their needs.
