Officials Investigate Dead Fish Found In Arlington Stream

Arlington's Department of Environmental Services is investigating confirmed reports of dead fish in Four Mile Run​.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington's Department of Environmental Services is investigating confirmed reports of dead fish in Four Mile Run.

"We are actively investigating the matter to determine the likely source," officials stated Thursday afternoon.

The dead fish were found in the stream from Bluemont Park to North Carlin Springs Road.

The agency reminds residents of the following stream safety precautions:

  • Never drink stream water.
  • Keep stream water out of your eyes, ears, and mouth, or any open sores. Children who are too young to understand these precautions shouldn’t be allowed to play in streams.
  • Avoid any contact with stream water that’s discolored or has an unusual odor.
  • Fishing and wading are OK, but don’t swim or bathe in streams.
  • Use caution when wading to avoid falling on slippery rocks, and wear shoes to protect your feet from broken glass and other sharp objects.
  • Don’t eat uncooked fish caught in local streams.
