Park Bench Interview: 3 Minutes With NoVA Hypnosis and Wellness

Monica Marusceac tells Arlington Patch about the hypnosis and health coaching provided by NoVA

  1. Your name, title and name of your business.
My name is Monica Marusceac, and I’m the Director at NoVA Hypnosis and Wellness Center.

  2. How did you come up with the name of your business?
Well, my goal has always been to establish a local center for mind-body wellness that was easy to connect with, so I chose the name “NoVA” for the local area. I love this area! In fact, I don’t think I’m ever going to move back to my original home town, New York City.

  3. What’s the best part about doing business in your town?
McLean and the surrounding areas are full of intelligent, open-minded, yet driven people, my kind of people. It kind of reminds me of New York City, but with less concrete. I feel so at home here, both in a business sense as well as in an inter-personal sense. As a small-business owner, though, I love being able to connect with other small business owners on a regular basis, who are all very supportive of my work.

  4. If you were to get an indulgent snack in your town, where would you go and what would you get?
I would go to SweetGreen in McLean. Their salads so indulgent and delicious, who needs chocolate?

  5. If you were going to have a secret rendezvous in town, where would it be?
Entyse Lounge at the Ritz Carlton in Tyson’s. The ambiance is unbeatable and the service is perfect in every way.

  6. What attracted to you to this business, and how did you start?
After leaving active duty as a Marine Harrier pilot, I was on my way to med school and decided to start a hypnosis practice as a way to contribute to the family income. Well, business exploded and I decided to forego med school, as I was already helping people heal through the power of mind.

  7. What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
The biggest challenge is overcoming the false myths associated with hypnosis, such as it being “mind-control” (it’s not) or being the same as “meditation” (it’s different). If the public at large knew how powerful hypnosis is for creating change, more people would leverage it in their lives.

  8. You’re not the only person in this business. How do you distinguish yourself from the others?
We strive to be as professional and mainstream as our clients are, even though the services we provide are far from mainstream yet. And we always aim to help our clients realize that every problem is solvable and they already have all the resources they need inside themselves to change.

  9. What advice would you give to a person just starting in your business?
The power of the mind is the last frontier and people in this line of work need to stay strong in the knowledge that hypnosis is the wave of the future. Clients will come. Be bold. Be ready. Be professional. Have fun!

  10. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Life and business are not zero-sum games. Help others reach their goals and live their dreams first, even if they are in your industry or in your same social circles, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how achievable your goals and dreams become too.

  11. How can interested customers get in contact with you?
Email Monica Marusceac at monica@novahypnosisandwellness.com or call (571) 295-7371.
