Update: Arrest Made In Restaurant Assault, Possible Hate Crime

Updated ( May 12, 2:45 a.m.): Arlington County Police arrested 28-year-old Jordan Bevan, of no fixed address, hours after a patrol officer identified him as the suspect wanted in connection with the May 4 assault of a Crystal City restaurant employee, according to a 7:18 p.n. post on the department's Twitter account.

ARLINGTON, VA — On Tuesday, an Arlington County Police patrol officer identified 28-year-old Jordon Bevan, of no fixed address, as the suspect wanted in the assault of a Crystal City restaurant employee, according to a police release. The officer recognized Bevan from a previous encounter.

Police have issued arrest warrants for Bevan for defrauding an innkeeper and felony assault and battery.

Officers responded to the report of an assault May 4 in the 500 block of 23rd Street South, where the suspect, believed to be Bevan, had left the restaurant without paying his tab. Two employees followed the man outside and asked that he return to the restaurant to settle the bill, but he walked away.

When one of the employees started recording Bevan on a cellphone, he shoved the other employee to the ground and the fled in the direction of Richmond Highway, police said. The employee who was assaulted did not require medical treatment.

During their investigation, detectives from ACPD's Homicide/Robbery Unit learned the assailant had used racial slurs against the employees, an Asian man and woman.

ACPD notified the Virginia State Police, who are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

Police described the suspect as a white man, in his late 20s to early 30s. He had dark brown hair, a light brown beard, stood approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 tall, and weighed between 150-160 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing square rimmed glasses, headphones, a black T-shirt, gray and black sweatpants, and black sneakers.
