Report: Arlington Home Prices Skyrocket 14 Percent

January median sale prices in the county are way up compared to last year, even as Alexandria declines.

Arlington may be a great place to live, but it sure is expensive -- and it’s only going up, according to a new report from realty company Long & Foster.

Nearly all of the Northern Virginia real estate market experienced an increase in the median sale price of homes in January, but Arlington saw the biggest jump of them all with prices leaping 14 percent -- from $519,000 to $590,000 -- compared to one year ago.

It appears everyone wants to be in Arlington, because neighboring Alexandria City actually saw a fairly significant decrease, dipping 4 percent from $454,000 to $436,500, according to the report.

Loudoun County jumped 6 percent from $414,500 to $439,000, and Fairfax and Prince William counties both had a modest 1 percent increase.

The housing market across the United States has been ticking upward thanks to an improving economy, and as Northern Virginia is one of the strongest housing markets in the country, it’s not surprising to see significant increases as a result.
