"For safety’s sake, we ask well-wishers to stay on the sidewalks and greet our volunteers at curbside," their website states. "Be prepared to accept winter safety tips and candy canes!"
The Santamobile has become an annual tradition for the volunteers at the FCVFD. They decorate the reserve pumper with lights and other decorations, and then they escort Santa Claus through Falls Church and the surrounding area each night from mid-December until right before Christmas.
The schedule you see above is highly variable depending on weather conditions. If they miss a night in Falls Church, they'll revisit sometime between Dec. 20-23. You'll need to monitor their Facebook page to make sure everything is on track.
Santa's fire truck rides are a popular event enjoyed across the country and throughout the D.C. area. In Northern Virginia alone there are plenty of fire departments that do it, including in McLean, Vienna, and elsewhere. Volunteer fire departments typically hold the events as a way to build community and spread a little holiday fun in the process.
