VIRGINIA/DC — Home prices in many parts of Virginia and Washington, D.C., continue to surge as growing numbers of people are looking to buy in a market that still has limited inventory.
In Virginia, supply remains limited across many local markets. At the end of April, there were 17,395 active listings statewide, a decline of 40.3 percent compared to the end of April 2020.
Signaling a positive change in supply of houses for sale, though, is that active home listings across Virginia grew by 10.2 percent between March and April, and new listings increased by 12.0 percent at the end of April compared to the previous, according to Virginia Realtors.

As COVID-19 case numbers improve in Virginia, economists are noting the state’s economy far outpaced expectations during the pandemic. "A major reason has been the strength of the residential real estate market. The housing market boom has contributed to a 40 percent surge in state revenues in taxes paid on deeds and other court filings," Virginia Realtors said Thursday in a blog post.
