VDOT Repairs To Disrupt Access To Chain Bridge This Summer
Virginia Department of Transportation will be making repairs to a bridge on North Glebe Road where it approaches the Chain Bridge.

ARLINGTON, VA — Drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists traveling to and from Washington, D.C. via the Chain Bridge can expect delays and closures in the coming months due to road improvements being conducted by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
This summer, VDOT is repairing the North Glebe Road Bridge over Pimmit Run, which provides access to the Chain Bridge from North Arlington.
VDOT will be replacing bridge beams, deck, and barriers, as well as waterproofing abutments and piers. Work crews will also upgrade guardrails and drainage and replace barriers and railings that provide access for bicyclists and pedestrians to local trails.

Federal and state funding is paying for the $9.9 million project, which is expected to be completed in the fall. Some of the funding comes from the State Good Repair Program, which the General Assembly passed in 2015 to help improve state-owned bridges that were in poor condition or had fallen into disrepair.
While work is being done, drivers can expect weekly closures on North Glebe Road during the following hours:
