CORRECTION (May 19, 10:30 a.m.) — This story was updated to specify that Michael Davis was the driver of the vehicle that police searched.

ARLINGTON, VA — Wakefield High School was temporarily placed under "secure the building status" on Tuesday, as Arlington County Police investigated a report of a student wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest and making threats of violence against others off of school grounds, according to a police release.

Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday to a call from a Wakefield High School staff member, who said a student was involved in an altercation with several other people off school property. Police say the student was wearing what appeared to be a bulletproof vest, and when he left the area, he implied threats of violence against others.

The student was seen returning to the area in a vehicle, according to police. With the help of the school resource officer supervisor, officers located the student next to a park vehicle in the vicinity of South Frederick Street and South George Mason Drive. Police detained the student and two occupants of the vehicle without incident.

The officers saw a ballistic vest carrier inside the vehicle, which they then searched and found a firearm under the driver's seat.

ACPD charged the driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Michael Davis, with carrying a concealed weapon and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Arlington County Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.

Throughout the police's investigation of the incident, Wakefield High School was placed under "secure the building status."
