Winter Weather Advisory Issued For NoVA, DC Through Thursday

A winter weather advisory in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, with a chance of snow through the weekend.

VIRGINIA/DC — With as much as 3 inches of snow in the forecast, the National Weather Service placed the Washington, D.C. area and surrounding regions under a winter weather advisory.

The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday. Periods of light snow are likely during the overnight hours as temperatures drop into the low 30s.

By Thursday morning, the area could have a couple inches of snow, according to The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

Slippery road conditions could hinder the morning or evening commute on Thursday. Drivers should be careful and people should watch their first few steps on sidewalks, driveways and stairs.

The snow is expected to be a wet snow, similar to the Super Bowl Sunday storm.

Forecasters say there is a "slight winter threat" in the region Friday through Tuesday that could disrupt travel.

Light snow or a wintry mix is possible early Friday, with another chance of light snow or wintry mix Saturday afternoon into the night.

A slight warming is forecast for the middle of next week, according to AccuWeather.

Here is the NWS forecast for the next few days in the Washington, D.C., region:

Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow before 4 p.m., then a chance of rain between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow after 5 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 38.

Wednesday night: Snow, mainly after 7 p.m. Low around 30. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Thursday: Snow likely, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 34. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday night: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 25.

Friday: A chance of snow before 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 32.

Saturday: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 33.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40.

Monday: A chance of snow in the evening hours, with a low around 20.
