40s Age Group Leads Vaccinations In Loudoun County: New Data
People aged 40-49 have received the most vaccines in Loudoun County, according to new data from the Virginia Department of Health.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — People in their 40s lead age groups in Loudoun County for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the start of March, according to new data.
The Virginia Department of Health recently added vaccine demographics data, showing vaccine doses given by age group and racial or ethnic group. But while age data is available for all vaccine doses, race and ethnicity data is missing for 467,850 people with at least one dose statewide.
Among age groups in Loudoun County, people in their 40s account for 8,895 people with at least one dose. The 50s and 70s age groups follow with 8,433 and 7,816 vaccinations respectively. The 40s age group leads the way for fully vaccinated people with 5,149 individuals who have received both vaccine doses.

The vaccination process is still in its earlier stages, as the state is only in Phase 1b of its vaccine rollout program. The first group to receive full vaccinations was healthcare personnel, including nurses, community health workers, EMTs, and primary caregivers, according to the Virginia Department of Health.
Phase 1b of the vaccination rollout, which provides vaccines for people over the age of 70 and those with preexisting health conditions, began on Jan. 11.

On a population basis, the 80 and up age group has the most vaccines per 100,000 people. The rate for this age group is 56,612 per 100,000 people for first doses and 28,715 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people. The 70s age group is second with a rate of 43,714 per 100,000 people for first doses and 16,907 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people.
People 75 and older were initially eligible in phase 1b starting Jan. 11 before eligibility expanded on Jan. 18 to cover anyone 65 and up and 16 to 64 with an underlying health condition or disability.
Here is the age group breakdown so far for first doses and second doses in Loudoun County:
- 0-9: 0 doses
- 10-19: 592 first doses, 248 fully vaccinated
- 20-29: 4,361 first doses, 2,654 fully vaccinated
- 30-39: 5,961 first doses, 3,577 fully vaccinated
- 40-49: 8,895 first doses, 5,149 fully vaccinated
- 50-59: 8,433 first doses, 4,502 fully vaccinated
- 60-69: 7,624 first doses, 2,575 fully vaccinated
- 70-79: 7,816 first doses, 3,023 fully vaccinated
- 80 and up: 5,116 first doses, 2,595 fully vaccinated
As for the race and ethnicity category, data is missing for 18,166 people with the first dose and 9,252 fully vaccinated people in Loudoun County.
The rate of vaccination per 100,000 people is the highest for the Native American population: 13,995 first doses per 100,000 people and 5,598 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people. The rate is the lowest for Asian residents: 3,668 first doses per 100,000 and 1,822 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people.
Here is the racial and ethnic group breakdown of vaccinations:
- Asian or Pacific Islander: 3,217 first doses, 1,598 fully vaccinated
- Black: 1,428 first doses, 682 fully vaccinated
- Latino: 3,609 first doses, 1,780 fully vaccinated
- Native American: 110 first doses, 44 fully vaccinated
- White: 19,048 first doses, 9,352 fully vaccinated
- Other race: 3,225 first doses, 1,615 fully vaccinated
- Not reported: 18,166 first doses, 9,252 fully vaccinated
In February, the Loudoun Health District joined Virginia's statewide vaccine registration system. Residents across Virginia can pre-register for the vaccine online, regardless of their current eligibility.
