ASHBURN, VA — Local health officials recently inspected food preparation and storage at food establishments in Ashburn. During the period from Jan. 25-Feb. 3, 2020, inspectors found a total of 14 violations at seven restaurants in Ashburn.
During an inspection of Antia's New Mexico Style Meican Food, foods such as whole beans, chile con queso and empanadas were marked with an eight-day shelf life. The dates should reflect a maximum seven-day cold-holding period, including the day of preparation, the inspector wrote in the report.

At Hunan Village in Ashburn, the food inspector found raw chicken stored above sprouts in the walk-in cooler. Raw animal foods should be stored below ready-to-eat food, the inspector said. The person in charge removed the raw chicken and placed it underneath the sprouts, according to the report.
The inspector also saw several flies in the kitchen at Hunan Village. The inspector told the restaurant to have pest control come visit the restaurant more often to get rid of the flies.

At a McDonald's in Ashburn, the inspector saw that bacon and eggs were being held at inappropriately low temperatures. Instead of 121 degrees Fahrenheit, the fast food restaurant was told to keep the food hot at 135 degrees or above. The McDonald's threw away the bacon and eggs observed by the inspector.
"In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations," according to Virginia Department of Health's website.
