Ashburn Restaurant Inspections: Kitchen Dust, Broken Dishwasher

ASHBURN, VA — Local health officials recently inspected food preparation and storage conditions at food establishments in Ashburn. During the period Feb. 24-26, 2020, inspectors found a total of 15 violations at five restaurants in Ashburn.

During a Feb. 26 inspection, a health inspector observed that the dishwashers in the kitchen and bar area at Eddie Merlot's were not sanitizing adequately. The inspector instructed the restaurant to repair the dishwashers to sanitize adequately after the wash and rinse cycle.

On Feb. 24, a health inspector observed that there was no soap at the hand-washing sink in the dish washing area of Good Fortune restaurant. "Hand soap must be available at the hand sink at all times," the inspector wrote in their report. At Good Fortune, the inspector also noted that the hand sink at the end of the cook line was in violation because it had no hot water.

At Yen's Cafe, a ventilation hood in the kitched had an accumulation of grease and dust, according to the inspector. The ventilation hood system should be serviced and cleaned more frequently, the inspector said.

"In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations," according to Virginia Department of Health's website.
