Briar Woods Band to Perform in Hawaii

Briar Woods Falcon Regiment Marching Band was selected to perform in Hawaii to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Briar Woods Falcon Regiment Marching Band was selected among 10 bands in the U.S. to perform in Hawaii to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, according to a Briar Woods High School Band announcement. The band will march in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade and participate in a performance at the Battleship Missouri Memorial. The parade will be held on December 7, 2016, beginning at Fort DeRussey in Waikiki and ending at Waikiki Shell where an evening concert will be held for participants in the parade.

Briar Woods Marching Band is among the most active performing arts groups at Briar Woods and is recognized as a Virginia Honor Band and Blue Ribbon Fine Arts program.

This year’s trip adds to the Briar Woods Bands’ history of travels and honors over the past six years. In addition:

  • The band has band performed twice at Carnegie Hall in the New York Wind Band Festival.
  • In January 2011, the Falcon Regiment represented Briar Woods High School and Virginia by performing in London’s New Year's Day Parade, 25th Anniversary, in London, England.
  • In December 2014, the band performed in the halftime of the 2015 Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Fl.
  • In Spring 2016 the band was awarded “Grand Champion” status at the Fiesta Val-Competition in Williamsburg, Va.

According to the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade organizers, the theme of this year’s parade is “to remember the events of the past while celebrating that once bitter enemies can become allies.”
