The Capital Beltway Warriors, a local Disabled Veteran Hockey club, traveled to Tampa, FL to bring back another National Championship.

The Capital Beltway Warriors, Winners of the 2018 Warrior C Championship at the 2018 Disabled Hockey Festival in Chicago, IL, returned to the 2019 Disabled Hockey Festival in Tampa, FL, to defend their title. The club has grown since 2018 and this year, with the gracious help of their sponsors, they were able to fly two teams down to Tampa to participate in this year’s National competition. The Capital Beltway Warriors B Team competed in the “Freedom” Division winning the Championship after besting the Chicago Blackhawks Warriors 5-3 in the Championship game on Sunday Morning. The Capital Beltway Warriors B team had beaten the Blackhawks team 6-4 in the first round of the tournament followed by a 7-1 win over the Motor City Warriors, a 14-5 win over the Tampa Bay Warriors, a 6-2 Win over the Alaska Warriors, in an impressive undefeated run to the Championship.
The Capital Beltway Warriors C team had an impressive showing in the “Liberty” Division, despite losing in the first round against the Minnesota Warriors 5-6, they bounced back and beat the Tampa Bay Warriors 8-3. Their final game ended in an 8-7 Overtime Shootout against the Pittsburgh Warthogs with Jason Brooks scoring the Winning Goal. The overtime win wasn’t enough though as the Capital Beltway Warriors C team fell one point short in the standings, missing a spot in the playoff bracket.
The Festival featured 20 Warrior teams across 3 Divisions this year. The 2020 Disabled Hockey Festival will be hosted by the city of Pittsburgh, PA in March 2020
