'Commonwealth Vault and Safety Deposit' Grand Opening Dec. 1

A former retail banking executive plans to open Virginia's first private walk-in vault at the Southern Walk Plaza in Ashburn.

Commonwealth Vault and Safe Deposit Co. will hold its grand opening Dec. 1 at Southern Walk Plaza in Ashburn, becoming the first of its kind in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The 1,600-square-foot retail space, which includes two private viewing rooms and a waiting area, will house a 300-square-foot steel Class I Modular vault at its center that “exceeds government and Federal Reserve standards.”

The building will also house an assortment of 350 private dual-key safe deposit boxes, firearms storage and customized storage locker units ranging in price from $10 to $200 a month.

Customers can store anything that isn’t illegal, dangerous, explosive, perishable, liquid or alive, according to The Washington Business Journal.

The business offers “concierge-style” 24-hour access to customer’s storage spaces, which can be accessed during the daytime with attendants who monitor the “security vestibule” cameras and after-hours with a concierge service that will meet them at the facility within an hour.

Commonwealth Vault and Safe Deposit is currently taking reservations for safe deposit box and custom storage unit rentals. Roughly 15 percent of the dual-key boxes are already leased, The Washington Business Journal reports.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting takes place Monday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Broadlands Marketplace Shopping Center, located at 43170 Southern Walk Plaza, Suite 118 in Ashburn. Cocktails and light refreshments will be served.
