Dulles Greenway Race Attracts 1,200 Runners For In-Person Event

The "Run the Greenway" on Saturday was one of the first in-person races to be held in the D.C. area since the start of the pandemic.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Dulles Greenway's first "Run the Greenway" attracted more than 1,200 runners Saturday morning for a 5K, 10K, and 800-meter Kids Fun Run along a section of the Greenway in Loudoun County.

The race served as a fundraising venue for more than 25 Loudoun charities, including the Dulles South Food Pantry, ECHO, Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter and Step Sisters.

The "Run the Greenway" was one of the first in-person races to be held in the D.C. area since the start of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The race was allowed to be held because it was in full compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Virginia COVID-19 guidelines.

The race, which used the westbound lanes of the Greenway, helped to raise more than $156,000 for the area nonprofits.

The 10K winner was Matthew Denlinger, 27, of Harrisonburg who posted a time of 32:32. The second-place finisher was Brian Carnes, 35, of Leesburg who ran the 6.2-mile course in 35:36. In third place overall was Jonathan Aikman, 43, of Alexandria who finished in 36:56.

The top finisher among women was Kristen Lincoln, 35, of Leesburg who crossed the finish line with a time of 41:33. In second place among women was Cristy Kennedy, 36, of Bristow who was three seconds behind Lincoln with a time of 41:36. Jennifer Paul, 33, of Washington came in third among women only three seconds behind Paul with a time of 41:39.

The 5K winner was Josh Martin, 16, of Broadlands, completing the course in 17:39. Marisa Poe, 17, of Washington, D.C., was second overall with a time of 18:40, followed by Paul Adam, 26, of Winchester in third place with a time of 19:00.
