ASHBURN, VA — The Dulles Greenway ramp to Belmont Ridge Road is reopening to traffic Friday afternoon after three weeks of reconstruction work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The eastbound Dulles Greenway (Route 267) ramp to northbound Belmont Ridge Road (Route 659) had been closed since Jan. 10.

Over the past three weeks, eastbound Dulles Greenway non-truck traffic has been detoured via a u-turn at Broadlands Boulevard, while eastbound truck traffic has had to exit at Claiborne Parkway (Route 901) and follow Broadlands Boulevard back to northbound Belmont Ridge Road. Once the ramp reopens at 3 p.m. Friday, both detours will no longer be necessary, as all traffic will again be able to turn left onto northbound Belmont Ridge Road, VDOT said.

When the Belmont Ridge Road at Dulles Greenway project is complete, drivers on Belmont Ridge Road will have two lanes in each direction at the Dulles Greenway interchange, with two-foot shoulders on each side. The entire project is scheduled for completion this autumn.

Other planned work at the interchange as part of the project includes:

  • A new traffic signal (including a flashing yellow arrow) at Belmont Ridge Road and the westbound Dulles Greenway on- and off-ramps.
  • Partially reconstructing the ramp from southbound Belmont Ridge Road to the eastbound Dulles Greenway and moving the ramp entrance slightly south of its current location.
  • Repaving and restriping Belmont Ridge Road just north and just south of the bridge
  • Retiming and adjusting the traffic signal at Belmont Ridge Road and Sycolin Road.
