Firearms Banned In Loudoun County Facilities By New Ordinance
Residents can no longer carry firearms in county facilities in Loudoun County, due to an ordinance that was amended in March.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Due to a new ordinance adopted by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, residents will not be permitted to carry firearms in the county's facilities. This means that guns are prohibited in parks, government centers, or any building used by the county in an official capacity.
In a news release, the Loudoun County government said they are taking steps to enforce the new law. Signage is currently being placed at county facilities notify residents. This year, the county plans to establish security screening stations at the Shenandoah building and government center in Leesburg and at the government service center in Sterling.
There are exceptions to the ordinance. Sworn law enforcement officers and contracted security personnel are not prohibited from carrying firearms. Additionally, concealed carry handgun permit holders can possess a firearm when visiting county parks. A full list of exceptions is available on the county's website.

If a resident does possess a firearm when visiting a county facility, they are allowed to keep it stored out of sight and locked in their vehicle. Anyone who fails to follow the new ordinance is subject to a fine of up to $2,500 or up to 12 months in jail.
County officials amended the ordinance in March after months of consideration, according to a news release. In September, the Board of Supervisors instructed their staff to prepare a draft ordinance in accordance with a new Virginia law that allows localities to prohibit firearms in their facilities.
