ASHBURN, VA — Coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, which means there is even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day. July 4 is almost here, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you.

July 4 Festivities
- Waterford picnic and fireworks
- When: July 3. Picnic at 8 p.m., fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.
- Where: Water Street Meadow, Waterford, VA 20197
- South Riding's Star-Spangled Parade and fireworks
- When: 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2
- Where: Town Hall, 43055 Center Street
- The parade ends at the South Riding Golf Club. There, residents can lay out chairs and blankets and enjoy live music by the band E3. Food will also be available from vendors, and the night will end with a fireworks display.
- Purcellville Independence Day Parade
- When: 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 3
- Where: From Blue Ridge Middle School to Emerick Elementary School
- Leesburg Independence Day Parade
- When: 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 4
- Where: Begins at Ida Lee Park
- The parade includes the Patriot's Cup Competition, sponsored by the Loudoun Now newspaper. Residents compete to create the best parade entry with their flags, Lady Liberty costumes, any other festive touches they can think of.
- Leesburg concert and fireworks
- When: Gates open at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
- Where: Ida Lee Park, 60 Ida Lee Dr NW, Leesburg, VA 20176
- The event includes live music, a picnic, and food vendors providing hot dogs, burgers, and funnel cakes. The fireworks are accompanied by music, and the display claims to be "the largest and most spectacular in the region."
- Fireworks at Franklin Park in Purcellville
- When: Event begins at 5 p.m., fireworks start at 9:15 p.m. on July 4
- Where: Franklin Park, 17501 Franklin Park Drive, Purcellville VA
- The celebration includes a scavenger hunt, glitter tattoos, inflatables, and live music from DJ Bifocals. Dinner will be available from food trucks.
- Fireworks in Ashburn Village
- When: "After sunset" on Monday, July 5
- Where: Ashburn Village, 44078 Cheltenham Circle
- Fireworks will be set off from an island in the middle of the lake. Visitors can see the show by setting up blankets and chairs on the banks opposite the island. Parking is limited, so visitors are encouraged to park and walk.
Washington, D.C., Fireworks
Fireworks on the National Mall are returning to D.C. The 17-minute display will be held on Sunday, July 4, starting at 9:09 p.m. and will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The National Park Service said that consistent with Centers for Disease Control guidelines, people who are not fully vaccinated must wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces on the National Mall. Masks are required for everyone on all forms of public transportation. All the memorials, except the Washington Monument, will be open.

People visiting the National Mall for the fireworks should practice social or physical distancing, staying at least six feet away from others who are not a member of your household, according to the NPS.
To celebrate progress made in getting Americans vaccinated, President Joe Biden is planning to celebrate the July Fourth holiday as "a summer of freedom." He will be hosting 1,000 medical workers, first responders, essential workers and military members on the South Lawn of the White House for the National Mall fireworks.
The 41st annual Capitol Fourth concert on PBS will be pre-recorded, with singer and actress Vanessa Williams serving as host of the event from D.C. The concert will include pre-recorded performances by Jimmy Buffett, Gladys Knight, Alan Jackson, Jennifer Nettles and Renée Fleming. The Capitol Fourth airs on PBS on July 4 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET.
The National Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams' inspiring composition "Olympic Fanfare" in tribute to Team USA, honoring the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams as they prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Capping off the concert broadcast on PBS will be live coverage of the fireworks display on the National Mall captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.
