Before temperatures warm up, though, a freeze warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for these areas:

  • Prince William County/Manassas/Manassas Park
  • Fairfax County
  • Stafford County
  • Spotsylvania County

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly," the NWS said. "Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."

Inside the Beltway, including the District of Columbia, temperatures should remain above freezing.
