
Gene Monroe Carus passed away on 2 April 2015 at the Johnson Center of Falcons Landing. Gene was born on June 22, 1926, in Enterprise, Oregon, daughter of Jack and Alta Monroe.
Her interest in travel led her to join the Civil Service in 1953. After three years in Japan, Gene became the Executive Assistant to the CINCPACAF in Hawaii.
In 1959, she was transferred to Ramstein, Germany, where she met Air Force officer Glenn Carus. When Glenn returned stateside to attend Air Command Staff College, Gene followed. The two were married in 1961 at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama. Their daughter Michele was born two years later.

Gene supported Glenn throughout his Air Force career, which included assignments in Wiesbaden, Germany, a three year tour in Athens, Greece and two years at SHAPE in Mons, Belgium.
In 1983, the Carus’ built a home in Fairfax Station. Gene spent the next 12 years as a volunteer at the White House until failing eyesight led to her retirement. The Carus’ moved to Falcons Landing in October of 2005.

She is survived by her loving husband, Glenn; their daughter, Michele; son-in-law, Richard and one grandson, Conor.
A memorial service will be held at Falcons Landing, Potomac Falls, VA on Wednesday, 22 April at 2:00 PM. Internment in Arlington National Cemetery will take place later.
