JK Moving Services, based in Sterling, is taking steps to make further inroads into Northern Virginia's growing data center market.
STERLING, VA — With Northern Virginia’s data center capacity expected to grow by nearly 14 percent in 2021, data center developers and owners will need help handling the logistics that comes with the growth.
JK Moving Services, based in Sterling, is taking steps to make further inroads into the data center market. The company has hired Tucker Gladhill as director of technology services within its commercial services division to work with data center owners on the logistics of the data center expansion
“Data centers are part of the landscape here in Northern Virginia and beyond,” Jon Theiss, vice president and general manager of commercial services for JK Moving Services, said in a statement. “They have specific logistical needs, and we are putting more resources towards meeting those needs and growing this segment of our business.”

An estimated 70 percent of the world’s internet traffic flows through Northern Virginia’s 12 million square feet of data center space, the majority of it in eastern Loudoun County. According to Northern Virginia Technology Council, Northern Virginia is the world’s largest data center market, employing nearly 15,000 people.
“JK’s investment into data center logistics is enhanced by its recent expansion into offering office furniture installations and other technology relocation services,” the company said.
The type of moving services offered by JK Moving has changed dramatically since last May after the first couple months of the pandemic.
On the commercial side of the business, JK Moving, the largest independently owned and operated moving company in North America, started seeing a new trend in 2020. Instead of moving furniture into offices, JK Moving was removing furniture from office buildings. In some cases, JK Moving has shut down offices entirely because the companies were switching to a remote-only work environment.
JK Moving, along with its sister company CapRelo, employs nearly 1,100 people, the majority of which live in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.
